Goddess Tawaret. Ptoleaic Period, 332-30B.C.
Metropolitan Museum of Art
Protectress of pregnant women and newborns. This is a statue I saw at an exhibit at the Met, in NYC. The statue combines a human, hippo, lion, and crocodile attributes- and is intended to frighten demons. Under her paws is a tyet amulet, a symbol of the mother goddess Isis, which could allude to the statue’s creation for a “birth house” temple where she was linked with Isis.
“Ancient civilizations once worshipped female deities, and women were the leaders, counselors, and healers of their communities. But through the ages, the wisdom of the Goddess was forgotten, and people around the world lost their connection to ancient feminine wisdom.” -
Tanishka, Goddess Wisdom
Part of the return of the divine feminine in today’s society can be found in women gaining a voice of clarity, strength and truth in the #metoo movement, the rise in women presidential candidates, and a step away from the standard men-in-suits, corporate life.
Aren’t we all tired of men in suits making decisions, on TV, in board rooms, in corporations? That time is over. The earth needs new decisions to be made that are more holistic, more nurturing, more respectful of life and creation and thus more FEMININE. It does not mean they should all come from women, they can equally come from men. They just need to stem from and guide towards a more circular, creative, non-linear, embodied, softer approach to ourselves, our communities and our life.
We need both women and men, to step into new roles, and to do so unabashedly, to embrace those hidden gems of living more inspired, more spiritual, and more embodied lives: respecting themselves, the finite resources of our planet, the ever present need for love and acceptance of all people …in a more feminine way, that embraces life.
