Why Detox?
Martha Beck said there are three things can essentially change/heal your life in the parts that are hurting: Love, Rest, Kindness.
The detox falls into those categories. By loving yourself enough, and caring enough to give yourself rest and a reset, you are healing your life. It is a way to pause, reset and recalibrate your body in order to enter the next season.
The transition seasons like Fall and Spring are when your body is especially vulnerable to colds, inflammation, mucus and other ailments that come with the shift in the seasons. Just take a look in your office or work space of how many colds go around during that time.
The detox is a means for you to “prep” your body to be best prepared for the change in seasons and anything else that comes up for you.
YOUR EMOTIONS - Dump the gunk
Detoxing your body is not only about just what you eat or don’t eat. It’s about the emotions that you have to clear. A lot of our society’s ailments (poor sleep for example) is from not doing the work necessary to clear your emotional well being and to RESET.
The Fall is a time associated with the emotion of grief…does not mean you will grieve, but it is the time to let go of any sadness, emotions or anything bringing you down.
It may also cause you to awake grief that you held hidden somewhere deep inside some pocket of your body. LET….IT…..GO….
Each detox is a chance to see what emotions are no longer serving you or ones you need to release to become lighter and healthier. In today’s culture we seem to spend more time maintaining our cars and garbage disposals than we do on our own bodies and mind.
How much time and energy do you invest in your own wellness “maintenance”?
Yet you expect your body to process all the food you place in your mouth 3 times a day (including the processed fatty kind) not to mention the gallons of liquor you request your liver to process, and then there are the emotions you have to take in from yourself, your family and your coworkers. Heck…just writing about it makes me tired.
When your body collects so many toxins that it can longer process – it shows up in the ways below:
• Fatigue
• Food + Seasonal allergies or intolerances
• Skin problems
• Weight gain or inability to gain weight
• IBS, constipation, or irregular bowel movements
• Hampered immunity
• Headaches or other pains
• Hormonal imbalances
• Depression, anxiety, or constant mood swings
• Trouble sleeping
• Low sex drive
• Sugar cravings
These are some of the visible benefits of a detox, at least that I have observed in my own body:
• Less inflammation – rings fit better on your fingers
• Waking up refreshed and without an alarm clock
• Glowing skin – I have had folks ask me what I am using
• Clear thinking
• Decrease in anxiety and a general feeling of “blah”
• Increased energy
• Weight loss
• No seasonal allergies
• Increased immunity
• Improved hormonal balance
• Better sleep
• Clear thinking and balanced moods
• Stronger sex drive
• Increased stamina and vitality
Most importantly, you notice that you are committing to something healthy, something for yourself and something for your self-care. Just stop there and sit with that for a second. Your body needs it. It is probably has been trying to tell you by showing you the symptoms, yet you override it with your rushing, business, and being fooled that you will be young and fit forever. News flash, your body ages MUCH faster if you don’t tend to it properly. One clear way to achieve that is through the detox.
It’s not about eating green peas and shoots for 10 days. HECK NO. It is about eating lighter, FRESHER foods, to give your body a break: give your stomache a break from working so hard from all the food you dump on it on a regular basis. Give your mind a break too- pause to meditate even if it is for a minute or 2.
